As the school year ends, AAA stresses the importance of preparing and educating inexperienced teen drivers for some of the most dangerous driving days of the year. Nationwide, more than 7,000 people died in teen driving-related summertime crashes between 2011 and 2020. That's more than 7 people per day during the 100 Deadliest Days - the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day – compared to the rest of the year. "Without the responsibilities of school during the summer months, teens will spend more time on the road, often driving with friends at odd hours of the day and night. Younger drivers don't have as much experience behind the wheel, so they often engage in unsafe behaviors like speeding and distracted driving," says Theresa Podguski, director of legislative affairs, AAA East Central.
